A Message from World Learning President Donald Steinberg on the Nepal Earthquake

We at World Learning were saddened by last weekend’s devastating earthquake in Nepal. We are grateful to report that all students and staff of our SIT Study Abroad programs in Nepal are unhurt and in safe locations. We have already begun evacuating them from Nepal.  We are posting regular updates on our SIT website, www.sit.edu/advisory.

World Learning has a long history in Nepal. We have had programs in the country for more than 40 years, and we have deep bonds with communities where we operate. Over the past few days, we have heard from many alumni and community members who want to help those in the SIT family who have been impacted by this tragedy. The outpouring of support and well wishes underscores the strength of our connections with this beautiful country.

In response, we have established the SIT Community Relief Fund for this purpose. Gifts made to the fund will provide support during times of crises to host communities, partners, homestay families, and local staff who make our work on the ground possible. Contributing to this fund ensures donations will directly support members of the SIT community.

Our thoughts are with the people of Nepal and everyone else impacted by the earthquake.
